Black Dirt Farm is owned and operated by Tom Gilbert and Molly Barber, with daughters, Kai (14) and Thea (8). We are deeply committed to raising food and animals with dignity and respect, and pursuing our work with responsibility and creativity to ensure our operations do not adversely affect this land and the ecological community we are apart of.
A big part of what we derive the most joy from in our work is the people we get to work with to make everything happen. John lives with us at the farm, along with his dog, Abe and Blonde Belgian draft horse, Jake, bringing immense passion and talent as a teamster and horse logger, helping the farm move closer to being animal powered everyday.
Buffy, is our food scrap collection route operator, bringing the grit and savvy that keeps everything flowing. Jenn, the farm’s Make-it-Happen Maven, manages our customer accounts and special projects.
And our long time, amazing friends Emily, Andy and their daughter, Ava from Wheelock Mountain Farm, are part of the life blood that makes this place thrive – partnering with us on haying, tackling massive barn rehab projects, and bringing seemingly endless goodness and solidarity into our lives. As we grow and build the farm we are grateful for the community we live in, and we hope to keep expanding on the wonderful partnerships on-farm and off that make our operation and community thrive.
Solidarity Through Service
In support of this wonderful community of ours we provide complimentary compost services to Lakeview Elementary, Four Seasons Early Learning Center, and the towns of Greensboro & Stannard. We offer donations of High Potency Worm Castings to local non-profits.
